Endoscopy of the uterus (hysteroscopy)
We recommend a hysteroscopy especially if several IVF attempts have already failed. It makes it possible to directly determine whether there are any changes inside the uterus that could prevent implantation of the embryo, e.g. fibroids, polyps (mucosal growths), malformations or inflammations.
Hysteroscopy is a surgical procedure in which a tiny camera attached to a rigid tube (hysteroscope) is inserted into the uterine cavity through the cervix. For better visibility, the uterus is inflated with a gas or liquid during the procedure.
With the hysteroscope, changes in the uterine wall can be detected and, if necessary, removed immediately with other instruments. The endoscopy can be performed on an outpatient basis with or without anesthesia in the fertility clinic and is low-risk. Shortly after the procedure, local pain and light bleeding may occur with removal of fibroids or polyps.
If you need a hysteroscopy, we will contact your gynaecologist who will perform the procedure. If your gynaecologist does not perform this procedure, you will be referred for treatment.
